And when analyzing Youth in Revolt from the perspective of popularity - its supporting cast includes massive names like Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, and Justin Long - there's no telling how this feature failed to resonate more fondly with audiences. Quite the quirks, and they make for two admittedly alluring characters who rattle off some of the most eccentric dialogue you'll read about today. Their characters enjoy classic literature, French New Wave films, and Frank Sinatra on vinyl. Those are two of Baumbach's most famous and frequent collaborators, and they're arguably at their peak here in Greenberg. The former is played by Gerwig, while Ben Stiller shows up as the titular character. But with wit embedded deep in every element of its script, Greenberg (2010) showcases keen story structure and entertaining character dynamics that result in a quirky, alluring tale about a personal assistant and her relationship with her employer's brother. It's not the most straight-up hilarious film you'll read about today. Almost half of Baumbach's filmography resulted in bombs at the box office, in fact. Others like Margot at the Wedding (2007) and While We're Young (2014) picked up decent traction with critics while failing to resonate with audiences. Various films written and directed by Noah Baumbach - the husband of Greta Gerwig, who helped her pen the script for Barbie (2023) - could be deemed underrated enough for the list.
